Optical Signal Processing and Optical Switching

 

 

Data manipulation whilst the information remains in the optical domain has raised expectations for high-speed processing well beyond 100 Gb/s. This belief has been revitalized during the last years due to the rapid progress of optical integration technologies that can yield miniaturized and highly functional optical circuits capable of performing almost any type of useful processing tasks at rates in excess of 40Gb/s. My research has focused on several aspects of signal processing functionalities, mainly targeting the demonstration of novel concepts which can enable unique functional potential at ultra-high speeds. I have closely followed the evolution of optical switching and processing technology from bulky but highly functional optical gates into today’s integrated optical switches and I am continuously interested in adopting new, emerging optical technologies and transform them into high-end switching systems. More specifically, my research has been engaged so far in:
