Optical high-speed and multiwavelength laser sources

This activity includes mainly the demonstration of novel SOA-based fiber ring lasers towards providing multiwavelength CW operation or high-rate mode-locked pulsed operation. A dual SOA ring cavity employing a Fabry-Perot filter for spectral comb generation and a feedback loop has been shown to achieve more than 50 simultaneously oscillating CW channels with 50GHz channel spacing. Mode-locked operation of the SOA-based fiber ring laser has been demonstrated both in single- and multiwavelength pulsed operation, with pulse repetition frequencies up to 40GHz. Finally, I have worked on pulse repetition multiplication techniques using spectral selection in low-finesse Fabry-Perot filters followed by power limiting function provided by saturated SOA devices. This technique has allowed for 40GHz operational optical clock rates obtained bu using quadruplication of 10GHz original clock pulses.
