Optical Access Network technologies and Radio-over-Fiber systems

Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) networks offer a promising communication paradigm for transmitting broadband wireless signals over optical fiber infrastructure. In this respect, my research focuses in enabling the implementation of 60GHz RoF networks capable of transmitting 60GHz broadband wireless signals over fiber-based links down to the mobile end-user whilst being capable to support all the attractive aspects of wireless communications: seamless communication, mobility, multiple-user access. Moreover, my research focuses in converging optical and wireless networks by means of allowing the delivery of heterogeneous wireless technologies as well as wired FTTx services over the same network infrastructure, like for example Passive Optical Networks (PONs).
