  • Animal Husbandry I 1st Semester module 4 (30U010)
    Lectures: Farm animal handling and transport, Production characteristics of farm animals, nutrition and animal performance, Systems of organic livestock production, Welfare indicators and assessement.
    Practicals: Identification, Body parts and handling of Farm animals. Applications of genetic improvement methodologies, Description and assessment of animal housing facilities. Management of farm animal enterprises.
  • Veterinary Informatics 1st Semester module 3 (30U014)
    Lectures: The use of information technology in the veterinary profession. Computer assistance in farm animal management. Data collection and storage. Retrieval of scientific information and writing scientific papers. Practicals: Computer based self learning, examples of finding bibliographic references.
  • Animal Husbandry II 3nd Semester module 4 (30U011)
    Lectures: Principles of equine husbandry. Origin, classification, importance and nomenclature of equines. Identification, morphological characteristics and judging of horses. Colours and markings of horses. Breeds of horses. Horse care, nutrition and management. Training and use of horses. Horse behaviour and welfare. Horse stall and hygiene measures. Practicals: Equine identification and age determination. Training visits to equestrian clubs. Handling and care of horses.
  • Animal Husbandry III 3nd Semester module 4 (30U021)
    Practicals: Training visits to pig and poultry farms to assess the effect of methods of production on health and performance of animals.
  • Animal Husbandry IV 4th Semester module 4 (30U012)
    Lectures: Cattle, sheep and goat production: Structure and importance. Origin, classification, body conformation, performance, breeds, reproduction methods, genetic improvement and systems of farming of cattle, sheep and goats. Behaviour and welfare in relation to production methods, with emphasis on epidemiology and preventive veterinary medicine. Housing, management and farm organizing. Practicals: Training visits to research institutes and private farms, to study production methods, evaluate performance and inheritance of characteristics.
  • Veterinary deontology and jurisprudence 7th Semester module 3 (30U013)
    Lectures: Principles of veterinary deontology and veterinary jurisprudence. Code of veterinary practice, responsibilities of veterinary surgeons to their patients, clients, the public and professional colleagues, as well as their responsibilities under the Greek law.
  • Husbandry and Medicine of small ruminants (elective) 8th Semester
    Lectures: Recent developments in small ruminant (sheep and goats) production systems. Genetic improvement of small ruminants. Farm management and methods of recording. Identifying health and welfare indicators according to different production methods. Practicals: Visits to state and private farms with the mobile clinic -Identifying problems and suggesting solutions.
  • Husbandry and Medicine of Cattle (elective) 9th Semester
    Lectures: Recent developments in Beef and Dairy cattle production systems. Genetic improvement of Cattle. Farm management and methods of performance and health recording. Identifying health and welfare indicators according to different production methods. Practicals: Visits to state and private farms with the mobile clinic -Identifying problems and suggesting solutions.
