Communication Skills for Job-hunting

Why?

- How does an applicant structure a CV to respond to a job advertisement?

- What are the key skills of each applicant that make him/her suitable for a post?

- How does an interviewee reply to easy and difficult interview questions?

- How does a job seeker negotiate salary or employment conditions?

What?

In this seminar participants will learn what they need in order to successfully compete for a job abroad. Starting from the identification of their skills, participants are taught how to write their CVs and cover letters, how to prepare for an interview, how to talk about a pay deal and how to face the cultural differences in the international job market.

So?

Since July 2012, I have been doing my internship at one of the largest car industries in the world, in Brussels. I do not know if this is as important as it sounds, yet for me it is a unique experience which I never thought of when I started studying.

When I applied for the seminar “Communication Skills for Job-hunting” I had no idea how applicable and successful the skills I gained would be. Possibly the seminar duration was short, yet it was so well organized that we managed to learn necessary skills like how to write a CV from scratch, the importance of the cover letter and the difficulties of an interview.

I had to go through 3 different interviews in order to be accepted by the company. Yet I found out that I was properly prepared for most interview questions, which are very often so simple, yet we are not prepared for this.

Nevertheless, I believe that a large part of my success, if I may put it this way, is due to this seminar. I hope that it will be taught in the future, so that more students have the opportunity to attend it.
