Courses

  • Exercise biochemistry (EP0122). This undergraduate course intends to provide basic knowledge on the structure and function of living organisms at the molecular level as well as on the mechanisms, through which the body responds to the multiple demands of muscular activity. The knowledge provided is expected to help students to acquire a deeper understanding of the function of the human body during exercise.
  • Biochemical assesment of sport performance (EP061). This undergraduate course aims at showing how biochemical tests in an athlete's or exercising person's blood can be used to estimate the health status, evaluate physical conditioning and performance, as well as assess the adequacy and effectiveness of training programs. The course is basically theoretical but includes a practical part as well.
  • Laboratory biochemistry of exercise (EP036). This undergraduate course intends to provide students with a brief acquaintance with the principles and techniques of experimental biochemistry, have them practise in determinations of biochemical parameters before and after exercise, and acquaint them with data handling and presentation.
Our laboratory accepts undergraduate and graduate students to perform undergraduate, master's, and doctoral theses.
  • Undergraduate thesis. Dr. Mougios supervises undergraduate theses of experimental nature, which last approximately one academic year. Interested students should have attended at least 2 of the courses listed above successfully, so as to have an adequate theoretical and practical background in order to conduct research.
  • Master's and doctoral thesis. Prospective students should have an adequate theoretical background in exercise biochemistryor sport nutrition. Prior involvement with the laboratory is favored.
