I was born in Ierapetra, Greece, in 1977. I received the diploma and the PhD degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering in 2001 and 2006 respectively. My PhD thesis title is "Estimation & Experimental Validation of the Transmission of EM Waves in Urban Environment". I am now with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of AUTh.

In 2001 I was awarded the "Ericsson Award of Excellence in Telecommunications" (1st prize) for the best diploma-thesis of the year in the field of "Communications". In 2011, we received the 2nd best student paper award in the 2011 RFID-TA Conference that was held in Sitges, Spain for the paper "Inventory Time Reduction in Gen2 with Single-Antenna Separation of FM0 RFID Signals", co authored with J. Kimionis, A. Bletsas and G. Karystinos. I have received twice the "IEEE Wireless Communications Letters Exemplary Reviewer" award for 2012 and 2014 from the IEEE Communications Society, entering top 3% of reviewers for 2012 and 2014 respectively. On February, 2014, I was elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior Member.

I 've been a member of the IEEE and the Technical Chamber of Greece since 2001. I serve as a reviewer for several journals and conferences like the "IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation", the "IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications", the "IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology", the "IEEE Communications Letters", the "IEEE Wireless Communications Letters", the "IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters", the "IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics", the "IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems", "PIER & JEMWA", "IEEE VTC Fall", "IEEE VTC Spring" and more. I was also a Technical Program Committee Member in several major conferences. On September 2015, I was the organizer of the 5th Management Committee / Working Group Meeting and Workshop on "Wireless Power Transmission for Sustainable Electronics" that was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The workshop took place within the COST IC1301 programme.

Since 2014, I serve as a teaching assistant in the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering of AUTH in the following courses. This year I will participate in the following courses:

From 2001 to 2014, I have served as a teaching assistant in the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering of AUTH in the following courses:

  • Synthesis of Telecommunications' Devices (2002-2006, 2007-present)
  • Mobile Radiocommunications (2002-2006)
  • Telecommunications' Systems (2003-2006)

In the context of the course "Applications of Telecommunications' Devices", the students are taught to design and realize a Wireless Sensor Network. Each node consists of a micro-controller, sensors and a programmable RF22 wireless card. By the end of the semester, each group of 2 students realizes a prototype WSN application (hardware and software), deploying all sensing and communication aspects of the system (MAC layer, routing, etc.). Furthermore, all teams are requested to produce a demo-video of their work. Such videos can be found in the following links: Coach Assistant - Athlete Monitoring, Road- Rut Mapping, Find the Sheep, Patient Monitoring, etc. In the context of other courses in the past, interested students participate in the design and construction of prototype devices. On January 2012, students designed and constructed prototype UHF RFID tags. Read details on the Hardware section of the site. My teaching experience includes one year of teaching Physics and Applied Mathematics at DEI Foundation

In 2005 I served as an ITU expert giving a lecture on "Location Technology & Services in 3G Networks" in the workshop on 3G Mobile Systems, organized by INA (ITU Centre of excellence for Europe). In 2007 I gave two invited lectures on "Power line Communication" in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AUTh and then in 2008 one invited lecture on "Designing a Wireless Local Area Network" in the Dept. of Technology Management of the University of Macedonia, Naoussa, Greece

Finally, from 2004 to 2006, I taught "Computer Science" at the Dept. of Cinematography of AUTH
