Travel Information

The Conference will take place in Litohoro, which is a small town located ~90km S-SW from the city of Thessaloniki and on the eastern side of  Mt. Olympus, at an altitude of  ~300m  and ~5km from the Aegean coast.

Litohoro is easy to reach by car/bus or urban-train from Thessaloniki in one hour approximately. There are daily flights to Thessaloniki from all major European cities.

A bus service from  the airport  on Sunday, June 22,  has been  scheduled. The first one leaves around 15.00 and the second one around 19.30. The bus will wait outside of the airport on your right hand leaving the arrival hall,  where there is a bus parking lot.

A bus service from Litohoro to the Airport on Thursday will be scheduled too.

The railway station of Litohoro is 5Km away from the town and there is a bus service nearby every one hour.  However,  the LOC will take care for your transport from the Litohoro railway station to your Hotel.  Please when you stop at the Litohoro station check if there is someone holding/wearing a sign.  Otherwise call us on our cell-phones.

Transportation by Taxi:

Transportation by taxi from Thessaloniki-Airport to Litohoro costs approximately 90 € +6 € (airport/luggage/toll fees) and takes approx. one hour.

Transportation by Train:

From the Airport you can take the bus (Number 78) directly to the Railway Station. The bus stop is just outside the Arrivals terminal. There is a bus every 30min. You can get a ticket inside the bus (0.6€). It should take 30-40 min to the train station (NOTE: this depends on the traffic conditions). The blue line, marked on the map, shows the bus route.

There are trains (of different types) to Litohoro every hour. The best ride is the sub-urban train (see the  timetable).

The train station of Litohoro is located ~5km away from the town. All of us in the LOC will be stand by with our cars, so we are not going to leave you standing there. We will send you our mobile phone numbers by e-mail.

Transportation by Car:

If you rent a car from the airport of Thessaloniki, you should follow the path marked in red on the map, in order to reach the “Ring Road” that goes around Thessaloniki and connects to the Thessaloniki-Athens highway. Hence, after leaving the Airport, go straight on the traffic light, and then continue straight. The road turns left – NW – after a few hundred meters. After ~7 km, follow the exit “Ring Road”. From then on you practically go straight all the way, following signs to ATHENS (or ATHINA) or  KATERINI  or LARISA (it’s the same direction). After by-passing Thessaloniki, the ring road connects to the highway, leading to Athens (via Katerini). Katerini is ~70 km from Thessaloniki. After passing outside Katerini (through the tunnel), you continue straight for ~15 km. There is an Exit marked “LITOCHORO” on the right. After 100m you should turn left (follow the marks) and continue straight (you should see a mountain…) for 5km, to reach the main square of the town.

Coming from Athens:

If you intend to reach Litohoro directly from Athens/Airport, it may be a long ride… You need to get on the Metro or Sub-urban Train and go to “Larissa Station” (the central railway station of Athens, for trains going north). You can ask for a ticket to Litohoro, but please be aware that you may need to switch trains in Larissa – you should ask!
