My research focuses on the processes by which visual and proprioceptive information is transformed into meaningful motor output for controlling posture and balance during performance of static and dynamic complex motor tasks. The ability to rapidly and efficiently perceive, reweigh and integrate sensory information in order to control posture and balance is subject the degenerating influences of ageing increasing the incidence of falling and related accidents in the normal daily life of older adults. Can perception-action coupling be improved in older adults? If this is possible, what is the most appropriate means of exercise/training for improving the coordination between sensory input and motor output?
