Costas Tsougras (composer - musicologist) was born in Volos in 1966. He began his musical studies in Volos (piano, accordion and classical harmony) and continued them in Thessaloniki (counterpoint, fugue and composition with Christos Samaras). He studied chemistry  (bachelor 1987) and musicology (bachelor 1993, PhD 2002 with Dr Demetre Yannou) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also worked with Dr Fred Lerdahl on his PhD research while he was a visiting scholar at the Columbia University. He is an assistant professor on music analysis at the Music Department of the A.U.Th. and a member of Greek Composers' Union, ESCOM (European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music), SMA (Society for Music Analysis) and SMT (Society for Music Theory). He is the editor of "Musical Pedagogics", the GSME's (Greek Society for Music Education) scientific journal. His music and musicological research has been presented and published in Greece and abroad.
