Petros Vassiliadis

06.08.1945: Born in Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki primary and secondary education.

1963-1967: Theological Faculty of Thessaloniki. B.A. Theology.

1970-1972: Two years studies in Mathematics, Univ. of Thessaloniki.

1972-1974: Postgraduate studies in Biblical Theology (NT Studies), King's College, London.

1974-1977: Assistant at the University of Athens.

1977: Ph.D. Subject of Thesis: The Q Document Hypothesis: A Critical Examination of the     Literary and Theological Problems Concerning the Q-Document, Athens, pp. 110.

1977: Senior Assistant in NT at  the University of Thessaloniki.

1977: Member of the NT (Modern Greek) translation committee. Member of the Advisory Committee of the Greek Bible Society

1977-1989: Translation of the New Testament into Modern Greek Project, ended with the publication of the 2nd revised edition (together with S. Agouridis,  J.Galanis, G.Galitis, J.Karavidopoulos, V.Stoyannos, Athens 1989).

1978: Co-conducted the “Summer Institute for Biblical Studies” in the Educational Opportunities Program for American Students.

1981-1982: Consultant for UBS - Orthodox Relations at the United Bible Societies.

1981: Member of the Orthodox Advisory Group of the CWME of the WCC.

1982: Lecturer in N.T. at the Theological Faculty of the University of Thessaloniki.

1983: Assistant Prof. in NT at the same University. Thesis: Cross and Salvation. The Soteriological Background of the Pauline Teaching of the Cross, Thessaloniki, pp. 110.

1985: Associate Prof. in NT at the same University. Thesis: Charis-Koinonia-Diakonia. The Social Character of the Pauline Collection Project, Thessaloniki, pp. 321.

1986 to present: Teaches also “Missiology, Ecumenical and Liturgical Theology”, at the Theological Faculty .

1986: Co-editor of the monograph series COMMENTARIES of the N.T. and BIBLIOTHECA BIBLICA, Thessaloniki, Greece.

1989: Full Prof. at the Theological Faculty of the University of Thessaloniki.

1989: Editor of the monograph series ECCLESIA-KOINONIA-OIKOUMENE, which seeks to promote "the imperative of the unity of the Church, as well as her responsibility to the society at large".

1989: Elected by the CWME to conduct the Bible Studies section at the World Missionary Conference of the WCC at San Antonio, Texas (May-June 1989).

1990: Visiting Prof. at various Universities of Geneva and USA.

1992 to present: Coordinator of an ecumenical ERASMUS/SOCRATES Inter-University Cooperation Project of the European Union.

1993 to present: Founding member, Secretary, and Vice-President of the Society for Ecumenical Studies and Inter-Orthodox Relations.

1994: Organized jointly with the Bossey Ecumenical Institute the Symposium on "Classical and Contextual Theology".

1994-1996: Conducted the Research program: "Annotated Orthodox Biblical Bibliography".

1995: Visiting Prof. at the Universities of Copenhagen, Lund and Oslo.

1996: Organized the Symposium on "Common Ecumenical Vision", sponsored by the Society for Ecumenical Studies and Inter-Orthodox Relations.

1996: Elected by the World Conference of Associations of Theological Institutions (WOCATI) assembly as the European member of its executive committee.

1996: Coordinator for the University of Thessaloniki of the forum MEDITERRANEUM for Inter- faith, History-of-Religions and cultural anthropological research in the area of the 3 major religions in the Mediterranean See.

1997: Awarded the highest Honor by the Mayor and the Council of the Municipality of Neapolis, Thessaloniki for his contribution to religious and cultural development of the city.

1997: Visiting Prof. at the University of Joensuu.

1998: Visiting Prof. at the Universities of Bologna and Reykjavik.

1998: Organized the Ecumenical Symposium on "Liturgical Renewal and Visible Unity", sponsored by the WCC Unit I (New Skete, NY USA, 26-31 May).

1998: Editor-in-chief for Eastern and Southeastern Europe of the monograph series INTERNATIONAL STUDIES IN FORMATIVE CHRISTIANITY AND JUDAISM of the University of South Florida.

1998: Co-opted staff at the VIII General Assembly of WCC in Harare, Zimbabwe to coordinate the Bible Studies.

1999-2006: Commissioner at the Conference of the World Mission and Evangelism of WCC

1999-2003: Member of the Synodical Committees on Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations, and on Liturgical Renewal, of the Church of Greece.

2000: Organized the Ecumenical Symposium on "Orthodox Theological Education” , sponsored by the ETE cluster of WCC  (Pendeli Monastery, Greece, 2-8 Februry).

Married to: Mrs. Marina Vassiliadou-Aslanoglou, from Edessa. Three children: Anastasia, Katerina, Vassileia.
