I have decided to put together a FAQ, so that it will answer some of your questions regarding the Artemis chatbot, or chatbots in general.
Q: What is a chatbot?
A: A chatbot (synonyms are chatterbox, chatterbot), is a comper program that you can chat with, as if you were chatting with a human. In other words, it's a program that tries to emulate human speech.
Q: What kinds of chatbots are there?
A: The most common types of chatbots are downloadable bots, website bots and chatroom bots. Artemis is a downloadable bot.
Q: How can I make a chatbot?
A: First of all, you need to know an appropriate programming language. Artemis is written in VBS. It's also possible to make a chatbot in PHP. Also, there's a programming language called AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) which serves this purpose.
Q: How long does it take to make a chatbot?
A: This depends on the chatbot and how much effort you want to put. The developpment of a chatbot theoreticaly never ends, since it's always possible to add new features and implement new ideas. If you want to make a chatbot that has moderate chatting capabilities, you can make an appropriate bot in a few weeks or months.
Q: What is the Chatterbox Challenge?
A: The Chatterbox Challenge is an annual chatterbox contest where chatbots from around the world compete, and various awards are given.
