Nikos Pleros is a Lecturer at the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, since September 2007. He obtained the Diploma and the PhD Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2000 and 2004, respectively. From 2005 until September 2007 he was a Teaching and Research Associate at the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) at NTUA.

His research interests include all aspects of optical communications and photonic systems spanning from integrated photonic devices to optical networking concepts. He has been actively engaged in research on multi-wavelength cw and pulsed laser sources for WDM/OTDM and high data-rate telecommunications, respectively, on all-optical signal processing and digital logic modules, on optical packet/burst/label switching systems and architectures, semiconductor-based switching devices, optical wireless access and Radio-over-fiber systems and networks, optical interconnects and biophotonics.

 

Dr. Pleros has published more than 70 articles in scientific journals and international conferences including several invited contributions. He has participated in several research projects funded by the European Commission within the FP6 and FP7 framework programs, including LASAGNE, MUFINS, PLATON, IASiS etc.. Dr. Pleros is recipient of the 2003 IEEE/LEOS Graduate Student Fellowship that is annually granted to 12 PhD candidates world-wide. In 1993, he was awarded the 15th prize in the Greek Mathematical Olympiad.

 

Dr. Pleros has served as Topical Chair on the “Radio-over-Fiber Networks: Technologies and Architectures” topic in the IEEE/LEOS Summer Topicals Meeting 2009 and he has participated as Technical Program Committee member in several international conferences. He is a member of the IEEE Photonics Society, the IEEE Communications Society and of the Technical Chamber of Greece.
