Ioanna Chouvarda studied electrical engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), Greece, and received the Ph.D. degree in Medical Informatics in 2001. She is Associate Professor at the Lab of Computing, Medical Informatics & Biomedical Imaging Technologies, A.U.Th., having R&D and educational tasks in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and tutoring a number of graduate students. She has been involved in Medical Informatics research for more than 20 years, and participated in R&D and technical management in a series of EU research projects, both in AUTH and CERTH institute, including I4C, CHS, PANACEA, SENSATION, HEARTCYCLE, ACT, ACT@SCALE,PATHWAY, AEGLE, WELCOME, CHESS, Cross4ALL, Milord, INCISIVE, Chameleons. She is also involved in research networking activities(Cost actions Enject, OpenMultiMed, Charme) and CHESS Marie Cure ITN. Her main areas of interest include
a) biomedical analysis and modelling (with applications in sleep medicine, cardiology, intensive care, cancer, etc) and biomedical data management,
b) the development of integrated data-driven approaches,
c) the exploration of machine learning and AI for health-related predictive models and precision medicine,
d) the incorporation of AI in connected health technologies and services & systems medicine,
e) the interplay of systems medicine with the daily life data & connected health technologies, to monitor, quantify and support patients.
In her research, she has close cooperation with medical clinics and institutes. She has authored or co-authored 85 journal papers in referred international journals, and more than 120 papers in conference proceedings and book chapters. She is reviewer in numerous journals and conferences, and previously Associate Editor and now member of the Editorial Board in CMPB Journal. I Chouvarda is member of IEEE, and member of the board in EMBS Greece Chapter, and WIE Greek Section.
