Brief resume
Androniki Pardalou studied Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AuTh; Greece), obtained an MSc in Oceanography from the University of Southampton (UK) and is currently a PhD student in Fisheries Biology at the Laboratory of Ichthyology, School of Biology AuTh. Her main academic interest is the interaction between coastal fisheries and marine megafauna, as well as MPA management.She has a 6-year working experience in NGOs in the field of animal welfare, research, and environmental protection. From 2013 to 2019 she worked or participated as a researcher in 5 scientific projects of the Laboratory. From 2015 to 2019 she worked as an external researcher at the Fisheries Research Institute in N.Peramos (Greece), on the National Program for the Collection of Fisheries Data. In June 2018 she was employed by the ACCOBAMS Secretariat for the purposes of the Aerial Survey Initiative 2018, as an Aerial Observer to participate at aerial overflights and make visual observations of marine mammals, seabirds and other marine megafauna (turtles, rays, sharks, etc.). In June 2019 she attended the STECF EWG 19 07 as a private expert to Review the implementation of the EU regulation on the incidental catches of cetaceans. In late 2020 she contributed to the drafting of the IUCN Reassessment of the Mediterranean bottlenose dolphin (<i> Tursiops truncatus </i>). Currently, she is the Scientific Coordinator of the project "Addressing the Interaction between Small Scale Fisheries and Marine Megafauna in Greece", aiming to assess incidental catch and mortality rates of important species of marine megafauna and to estimate the economic loss of the SSF sector due to gear damage and catch loss.
She has published 6 research articles in international peer reviewed journals and 10 other items. She is a certified GIS and stock assessment expert. She holds an Open Water Diver diploma.
